I started making lap steels in the late 90's. Paul Chandler was making lap steels and I couldn't afford
one at the time so I made my own. (Years later I did buy a chandler and still have it. Great instrument).
I was getting ideas and making a bunch of experiments to see how they turned out. All the while
I was making regular electric guitars with the goal of making a guitar that was good enough to
play in a band at a gig. I came to the realization that these lap steels I was making were really cool!
The feeling you get when playing with a slide is incredible, it's like pure expression.
It feels like you are making it sing in a soulful way, straight from your heart.
I think that is why I got hooked on playing the lap steel.
Finally I got the Idea that maybe other people would like to have one of these lap steels,
so I made a few new ones and sold them one at a time. I have made some custom lap steels:
5,6,7,and 8 string and all kinds of different tunings. So far I've shipped to Alabama, Kentucky,
California, and sold some in Texas.
I love the idea of someone playing an instrument I have made and making music and getting enjoyment from it.
I'm looking to sell the current batch so I can get to work on making new ones!
